Action Plan
Having an Action Plan can help to be prepared to act when you receive a flood warning or alert. These are some simple steps to take to prepare before flooding:
- Check that your insurance policy covers flooding – take pictures of your property before any flooding occurs
- Find out where to turn off gas, water, and electricity
- Make a list of important and helpful phone numbers (including your GP, insurance and policy number)
- Prepare an Emergency kit
- Be aware of the needs of children, babies, elderly, etc., and pets – check on your neighbours
If you live in a flood-risk area, do what you can NOW to prepare for a flood. Don’t wait until it happens; you may not have time. A personal flood plan includes a list of things you should do (like moving sentimental items to safety). It provides space for you to note down important contact details such as your utility companies and insurance.
